Meet the Columbus League Cycling Instructors

Ken Cohen

Ken Cohen

I learned to ride on the streets of Chicago (sans sharrows, bike lanes or paths) in 1970. Aside from a short sabatical (raising children) I’ve been riding all my life. I enjoy fully loaded short tours with Columbus as my base. I currently commute 22 miles round trip.

Randy Dull

Randy Dull

Randy bought his first 10 speed bike in 1970, rode TOSRV, and has been hooked on cycling ever since.  Riding experience includes recreational and family rides, racing, distance touring, cycle camping, mountain biking, and year-round commuting.  He worked in several bike shops and taught comprehensive bicycle maintenance classes.  Other cycling involvement included leading rides, promoting races, and coaching.  He is now a welding engineer working at EWI.

I’ve been carless since 2004, when my wife and I moved to Clintonville and I decided there was no reason for us to continue to pay for two cars when I could get to work using the bus.  In November of 2006 I was given a bike for my birthday and started bike commuting later that month.  I haven’t looked back.  I’ve found that I love cycling for transportation and that love led me to become a League of American BicyclistsCycling Instructor in August of 2009.

Juana Sandoval

Juana Sandoval

Juana Sandoval

Juana is a fair weather bike commuter, and she has been known to use COTA to make the ride shorter.  Juana is quite lazy while biking, but she prefers to think of it as being efficient. She is extremely lucky to have spent several hours biking slowly in Portland Oregon, Chicago Illinois, Akron Ohio, and Bogota Colombia, in addition to metro Columbus. Juana hopes to do her small part in helping hundreds of people become more comfortable with riding their bikes in Central Ohio.

In past lives Juana has worked as an automotive engineer and a high school math teacher. Juana is completely overeducated, with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, a Master’s in City and Regional Planning from OSU, and a M.S. in Civil Engineering, also from OSU. Despite this, Juana enjoys working as an associate engineer at MORPC. At MORPC she deals with various aspects of active transportation, including pedestrian, biking, and transit issues. (Juana’s voluntary work as an LCI is not affiliated with her MORPC work.)
