Spring Cycling Courses

The Team of Columbus League Cycling Instructors is teaching several spring cycling courses.

You can always find course information on the courses page. Here’s what we have lined up for the Spring so far:

All have on-road and classroom components, as well as parking lot drills for emergency maneuvers; all cost $60.

May, 2010

Instructors: Meredith Joy & Juana Sandoval
Sundays, April 11 & 18 @ 1-6pm both days, * Women only
Location: OSU area
Instructors: Ken Cohen & Michael Reed
Saturdays, May 15 & May 22 @ 10am-5pm (rescheduled from April 24 & May 1)
Location: OSU Bevis Hall, 1080 Carmack Rd

May is Bike Month!

May is National Bike Month and it is right around the corner. The weather is improving by May we’ll have prime cycling conditions. This is a great time to consider a cycling course- it can give you the tools and techniques to ride confidently and competently.

There are a variety of Bike Month related activities and opportunities to be an engaged and active cyclist. We’ll post more information about these opportunities soon. Meanwhile, mark your calendars- Yay Bikes! proudly presents Central Ohio’s 3rd Annual Bike to Work Challenge, May 10th through the 20th. During the Challenge, teams compete to see which can make the highest percent of their organization’s work commutes by bicycle.

More information and registration for the Challenge are coming soon at the Bike to Work Challenge website. The planning team is working furiously to finish the completely revamped website, coordinate events, and more!

LaHood Backs Bicyclists

Today, I want to announce a sea change. People across America who value bicycling should have a voice when it comes to transportation planning. This is the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of non-motorized.

We are integrating the needs of bicyclists in federally-funded road projects. We are discouraging transportation investments that negatively affect cyclists and pedestrians. And we are encouraging investments that go beyond the minimum requirements and provide facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.

The 10th National Bike Summit ended last Thursday, March 11th, with a momentous Congressional Reception, inspiring bike advocates from around the country – andSecretary of Transportation Ray LaHood – to bring the American bicycle movement to the next level! The 2010 Bike Summit was a paramount event for countless reasons but there are 10 clear highlights.
